While at their Yappy Hour tonight representing Doggie Cakes, we were able to see a new flier about the new pet assisted therapy program at Gulfside Regional Hospice. As our blog and website has been getting a lot of hits lately, I’m adding the details here for our local dog owners. It seems like a great opportunity for both the patients, pets, and new volunteers.
According to the flyer, “Research has indicated that pet assisted therapy can have a positive effect on the lives of those who are ill. Pet assisted therapy: reduces stress and blood pressure, increases sensory stimulation, inspires a sense of purpose, increases social interaction with family and staff, and reduces loneliness by creating a sense of companionship.
The pet assisted therapy program offers the opportunity for well-behaved dogs and their volunteer companions to visit hospice patients in a controlled environment. Gulfside Regional Hospice’s goal is to ease the pain and suffering of hospice patients by providing optimal care both medically and with alternative therapies.”
Do you have a well behaved pet that could brighten someone’s day? Are you willing to certify your pet in order to become a pet therapy volunteer? If you answered yes to both questions, Hospice would love to talk to you and enroll you in their pet therapy program.

You can also support them by shopping at their thrift shoppes, volunteering, or donating on their website.
