Doggie Cakes, on Main Street in New Port Richey was mentioned in the Winter 2009 issue of The GulfCoast Dog Magazine (Barking Section - Dog Lovers! Gifts for Them!, Page 70). It features a photo and details on the My Dog Scrapbook item that we sell both in the store and on the web - with our name address, phone number, and URL. This is a very cool surprise for us, and we appreciate it - as we start the new year.

The GulfCoast Dog Magazine is an upscale dog publication - from Punta Gorda and distributed in Charlotte, Lee, Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas, Manatee, Sarasota Counties of Southwest Florida. They concentrate exclusively on Dogs, their owners, and the lives they lead together.

On their website, they say that the magazine, "touches a new generation of dog lover, combining both lifestyle and service into one lighthearted and innovative publication."

This magazine, which comes out 5 times a year, is really well put together, informative, and fun to read and look at. Copies of the magazine are available for free in our store, while supplies last.

My First Dog - Early 1970's Family Film Recovered

We had an old family film digitized and posted it onto our YouTube site. It's from the early 1970's in West Milford, NJ and has footage of me (Trina Messano) and my first dog Tuffy - a Collie. You can also see my Dad, Alfonso Messano and his garden. My brother Dominick Messano (with the dark hair) is playing with his friend Joey. We had not seen this short movie in over 30 years - but it is now preserved.

Tuffy was a great dog - looked just like Lassie. She lived to be a ripe age of sixteen. Our next dog, Bradley, a mutt - probably with some Labrador in him, was also very loved. Bradley stayed in New Jersey when we my parent's moved to Florida in 1991. In 1992 I got my toy Poodle, Pebbles, who lived to be almost sixteen also.

We currently live with three dogs, Luna, Cosmo, and Gigi Nibbler - oh and the five cats and one bird. Still building memories - while baking dog treats.

Today we received, via snail mail, our Certificate of Registration for our logo for Doggie Cakes - Dog Bakery and Boutique in New Port Richey, FL. The process took a little over six months, but we are now the principal register of the mark - Registration Number: 3549735. This means that the logo will now get upgraded from ™ to ® on the web and in print. It was just nice to get a reminder that things are falling into place.

Doggie Cakes - Dog Bakery and Boutique now sells Doggles, both on the website and in the store. They are UV protection eyewear made just for dogs, and are available in 11 frame colors. They are modeled after sports goggles. Doggles will fit dogs 3 pounds to 250 pounds. All models have flexible, snug-fitting frames, which have foam padding against the face; polycarbonate (shatterproof) and anti-fog lenses; and adjustable elastic head and chin straps to keep the Doggles securely on the dog. Doggles feature patented wide nose bridge, deep lens cup, interchangeable lenses. Dogs have a much wider nose bridge than humans, along with protruding eyes. You need a goggle designed specifically to fit a dog's unique face structure.

They are worn the world over by military, police, search and rescue, and other working dogs for true eye protection. Doggles are recommended by veterinarians, and are also for the fashion minded.

Dog Edible Gingerbread Dog House - SPCA Suncoast Raffle Item

This dog edible gingerbread dog house will be raffled off with other items for SPCA Suncoast donations on Saturday, December 20, 2008 - as a part of the Pet Photos With Santa Event. Trina Messano, Co-Owner of Doggie Cakes built the house using human grade and dog-safe ingredients.

Ingredients: Ground ginger, whole wheat flour, cinnamon, water, molasses, carob, and yogurt with all natural food dyes.

The roof is composed of Cheddar Chomps - Small, which are cookies that we also bake in the store. The ingredients in those are: Whole wheat flour, cheddar cheese, yeast, low-fat milk.

Minnie Meows Finds a Home for the Holidays

Last night at the Festival of Lights open house event at the SPCA Suncoast, we adopted Midnight - a one year old female, black cat who needed a home. She is very sweet and we named her Minnie Meows. She is fitting in well for the first day - even with her new brothers and sisters (4 cats and 3 dogs).

This facility been saving animal lives and finding homes since 1964 as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. A full list of ways that you can help, donate, or adopt are listed below.

Doggie Cakes - Dog Bakery and Boutique will reach some new audiences (literally) during the Pasco Christmas 2008 - "Christmas Memories" show at the Richey Suncoast Theatre in New Port Richey. We bought season tickets for the first time this year and look forward to seeing the holiday show this weekend.

To try another marketing angle with the community, we purchased a small ad in the program for this show, which is probably sold out. As a new advertiser, we were told that we get a mention on stage prior to the show also, so that's really nice. The attendees seem like a nice group - hope they have dogs, doggie friends, or grandpups. The first two shows of the season were Sweet Charity and Lost in Yonkers. After the current show, you still have a chance to see My Husbands Wild Desires Almost Drove Me Mad, Crazy for You, and Hello Dolly closing the season in May 2009.

Doggie Cakes will return as a vendor at the New Port Richey Farmer's Market for two dates in December 2008 - Saturdays - the 6th and 27th. The move from Cavalier Square to Railroad Square on Nebraska Avenue, seems to be attracting new shoppers and dog owners - as you can see the Market from Grande Boulevard now. The timing is also right as our website and physical store are both in good order, so we can divide our efforts. We stopped selling at this weekly event in June, in order to focus on our Main Street store, special events, marketing, and wholesale orders.

If you have not already checked out the Farmer's Market, it runs every Saturday from 9 AM - 1 PM. Nebraska Avenue is East of Grande Boulevard and one block South of Main Street, in New Port Richey. This map is pretty close to the intersection. On days when we are not a vendor, we'll be shopping and visiting with our dogs. Our store is open from 10 am - 6 pm on Saturdays - See you soon.

Doggie Cakes Dog Bakery and Boutique ran a business card sized ad in the program for the upcoming "A White Hollywood" Fashion Premiere. We hope to get some additional customers and want to support a local business who is trying to bring some excitement and revenue to the New Port Richey downtown area.

This event will be at the Richey Suncoast Theatre on Saturday, December 13, 2008 starting at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $15 and can be obtained by calling 727-505-7502. This day of fashion was organized by Christians Boutique - 5728 Main Street, New Port Richey, FL 34652 and will be showcasing their top designers and great ideas in fashion. All profit of the event goes to Missionary Ventures, an international Christian organization that connects individuals and churches worldwide with local or indigenous ministries. This group supports the development of churches, schools, feeding centers, orphanages, clinics and hospitals in over fifty countries.

Doggie Cakes is open until 6 pm on the day of the event, and there will also be a holiday shopping stroll and parade in town - so be sure to stop by.

Before Santa Claus comes to Doggie Cakes - Dog Bakery and Boutique in New Port Richey, Florida for photos with your pet on Saturday, December 20th, 2008 from 11 am - 2 pm - he will appear at the SPCA Suncoast's Festival of Lights.

The Festival of Lights is Friday, December 5th from 5 pm - 8 pm. Santa will visit, along with "Justice", the Howliday Canine Chair. He's the dog that was brought to the SPCA after being found nearly starved to death. The story has a happy ending in that he has made an excellent recovery and has been adopted by a loving family.

There are details about sponsoring a light or pet, and a sponsorship form available at the link to the Festival above. We plan to attend to show our support and invite you to the photo event, which also provides all proceds to the SPCA Suncoast.

It's exactly 10 months today since Doggie Cakes wrote its first blog. It was only yesterday that we learned how to index the 70 entries that show the evolution of the business, products, events, and partnerships that we have developed. My favorite category is Making Moves because it shows every new development from baking at home and selling in the local flea market, to renting a store with commercial kitchen and becoming a wholesaler and retailer. Our Cats Love Kitty Mouse Gourmet Cat Treats

Doggie Cakes - Dog Bakery and Boutique is proud to present Kitty Mouse - Gourmet Cat Treats. We have experimented with baking our own treats for cats, but so far our cats are not 100% behind them. We recently purchased these healthy cat treats from one of our suppliers and all four of our cats love them.

The treats come in Salmon and Vegetables, and also in Duck and Vegetables. In addition to the meat broccoli the ingredients are cauliflower, blueberries, apples, cranberries, alfalfa sprouts, parsley with vitamins & minerals to enrich the nutrition. Each flavor is packed in a 7 ounce vintage inspired can.

We continue to develop our own line of cat treats, but in the duration - support and make these treats available to you and your cat friends.

Visit Doggie Cakes at Safety Harbor's Third Friday

Doggie Cakes will have dog cookies, treats, and some toys and leashes for sale at Third Friday, in Safety Harbor, FL on Friday, November 21. It's a free music series featuring live music in the John Wilson Park gazebo and at local venues throughout town, and street festival that runs monthly on Main Street - from 6 - 9 PM. It's safe and fun, as they close the street from traffic.

Proceeds of the event, such as our Doggie Cakes - Dog Bakery booth rental fee benefit a different local charity every month. This month's Charity is Brookwood Florida Central. A full listing of charities is on the City's website, in addition to more events.

We will also be at the next event on December 19, 2008 to benefit American Legion Post #238.

Hope to see you there, and at our store if you are visiting New Port Richey. Both are dog friendly!

Doggie Cakes - Scarecrow with Dog Wins Third Prize

Doggie Cakes Dog Bakery and Boutique participated in the Greater New Port Richey Main Street - Scarecrow Contest during the First Annual Pumpkin Stroll, on Saturday, October 25, 2008. Click here for photos.

We were surprised and happy to win third prize. First and second prizes went to the Reed family and Dayspring Academy. The event was hosted by Karen's Gifts. Other local businesses that created and displayed a scarecrow along with the individual and family entries were Makai Kayak and Kanoe, the American Red Cross, and Unique Awards and Engraving.

Look out competition, we already have ideas for next year.

It's a free music series featuring live music in the John Wilson Park gazebo and at local venues throughout town, and street festival that runs monthly on Main Street - from 6 - 9 PM. It's safe and fun, as they close the street from traffic. Tonight's musical guest is Low Frequency Shaman.

Doggie Cakes - Dog Bakery and Boutique celebrated its store ribbon cutting with the West Pasco Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors and our guests on Tuesday, October 14, 2008. It was a great event, where we got to meet many new people and some that have become friends and customers since our beginning at the farmer's market.
